On the Road Again...5 Travel Tips When Taking a Road Trip With Your Pet

17 May 2019

Summer is approaching and it’s time to plan your getaway with your best furry friend. Surveys show that 53% of pet parents are traveling with their pets!! Here are 5 things to remember on your road trip:

1. Safety, safety, safety.

As free-spirited as it looks and as fun as it might be, don’t let your pet stick her head out of the car window.  Always make sure your pet is secure in the car by putting her in a well-ventilated carrier or crate.  For safety reasons, it’s best to secure your pet in the backseat.

2. BYOW (Bring Your Own Water).

It’s important to remember to have H20 available for your pup, as dogs can become dehydrated on long trips.  We suggest bringing water from home that your pet is used to drinking.

3. Are we there yet?

Plan on your trip taking a little extra time and be sure to stop for potty breaks.  It’s important to make plenty of stops during long trips so your dog can stretch her legs, get a sip of water and sniff around a bit.

4. Peace of Mind.

Pets are more likely to go missing in unfamiliar territory; therefore, it’s extra important that your pet is wearing the proper identification tag while traveling.   Make sure your pet’s tag information includes all the necessary information to allow for the two of you to be easily reunited should the unthinkable happen.

5. Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork.

We can never escape paperwork - even while traveling.  Make sure you have access to your pet’s rabies and medical records in case an unexpected trip to an emergency vet occurs.  If you have a smart pet tag, such as the RoamingTail, be sure to upload images of your pet’s records and you’ll have 24/7 access to all the necessary information.
